I remember seeing you for the first time in the spring of ‘06 (my final semester) at a basketball game. We Rowdies were ecstatic to show you the cheers and welcome you to campus life. I could tell right away how excited you were to be at UF and I couldn’t wait to watch you play!

The leadership you have shown on the field, through your encouragement, your drive to understand and exemplify every aspect of the game and your ability to put the team on your back and win games through sheer force of will is what made the last three seasons some of the best football I have ever had the pleasure to watch. Your leadership off the field, through your academic excellence and especially your beliefs have been a revelation to myself and to many others in showing that there is a place where God and competition can go together. Seeing your tears on the sideline at the end of the SEC game made me realize how much this game, this school and all of your time and effort means to you and how much it means to me. Thanks for the past couple of years that I’ve been watching SEC football. The first time that I heard about you was when you won the Heisman. You see, I’m from Arkansas and I’m a big Razorback fan. I was ticked off when you beat D-Mac, but after I Googled you and read the wikipedia page on you, I quickly became a fan.

I was quite torn this year when you played Arkansas. As much as I wanted my Hogs to win, I really wanted you to go undefeated and win another National Championship and Heisman.

Thanks for all that you have done in your ministry. You are a great inspiration to all Christians and athletes (and everyone in between). If I had a son, I would hope that he would some day grow into the young man that you have become. But, alas, I have daughters. I hope they are as strong of a Christian as you are, but, at the same time, I hope they aren’t built like a fullback.

Take care and know that no matter where you go in the NFL, that team will automatically become my new favorite team. Keep doing what you are doing and God Bless.

Thank you again for the bible verse each week. I read it every week and those scriptures always seem to apply somehow to my life at the time. It’s encouraging to know that someone who has received as much attention as you can still be strong in their faith. I believe that leaders are people who let their actions speak and set the best example, and you’ve done that. You’ve been given a platform of great influence, to the entire world really, particularly college kids across America, and you have been a person of faith, sincerity, and integrity in front of all that. Regardless of who they cheer for, or how much they loathe the Florida Gators (bless their misguided hearts), they can’t help but have respect for you, because your personality and actions demand it.

I’m going to miss you eyeblacks each week. But know that you have left a legacy behind that will always be remembered.

So again, Thank You and Congratulations for all of your accomplishments as a Gator, friend.

Thank you for always standing up for what you believe in and for loving the way you do. Thank you for being unashamed about your love for God and your desire to always do the right thing. Your weekly bible verses also gave me the motivation to start reading the bible and gave me the courage to not only start standing up for what I believe in but to also reach out to others about it and be proud of following God and not following the status quo.
